A dental bridge is an appliance that will bridge the gap left by one or more missing teeth. A porcelain fixed bridge is the same kind of non-removable appliance that is sculpted in porcelain to replicate the appearance of natural tooth enamel. Porcelain is also an extremely durable dental restoration material that gives your new fixed bridge a strong base with which to replace any missing teeth.
As with many dental appliances, there are several types of dental bridges. During your consultation with Dr. Bakhtyari, he will discuss and suggest the best options for your particular need. The “traditional fixed bridge” is the most common application today. The bridge is made from porcelain material that is fused to metal. The bridge itself consists of two crowns that go over your existing “anchor” teeth. These crowns are attached to the new porcelain teeth, filling the gap and creating a bridge between one or more missing teeth.
Porcelain fixed bridges are excellent solutions to areas of missing teeth, but also serve to correct issues stemming from these areas of missing teeth. Porcelain fixed bridges help to maintain facial shape, restore bite accuracy, improve consistence of speech, prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of alignment, and restore your beautiful smile.
Dental bridges are custom crafted at a dental laboratory and typically require a couple of visits to Premier Dental Care. In your initial appointment, Dr. Bakhtyari will take a mold (or tooth impression) of your teeth. This will be used to create your permanent bridge work. At your second appointment, your new porcelain fixed bridge will be placed, adjusted, and cemented to achieve a proper fit.
Porcelain fixed bridges are extremely durable and should last for many years to come. However, much like any dental restoration, fixed bridges may need replacement at a future date due to normal wear. Dr. Bakhtyari will give you care instructions for your new fixed bridge. Regular brushing, flossing and dental visits will add life to your teeth, dental bridge, and any other dental restorations.
