Detecting and treating dental problems with dental x-ray technology or digital x-rays saves our patients time, money, and unnecessary discomfort.<\/p>\n

Here are 3 things you should know about digital dental x-rays and how they improve patient care.<\/p>\n

  1. An Industry Standard <\/strong>
    \nDental x-rays are a practice standard and are an essential diagnostic tool that provides valuable information about the teeth and surrounding structures that may not be visibly apparent during a regular oral exam. Also, digital image quality has increased dramatically to the point where it is equal to or greater than traditional x-ray film in regard to image quality.<\/li>\n
  2. Early Detection Means Better Care
    \n<\/strong>Dental x-rays are indispensable in the early detection of decay between the teeth, abscesses or cysts, bone loss in the jaw, sub-optimal tooth and root positions, cancerous tumors, developmental abnormalities in the teeth, and other problems inside the teeth or below the gum line. Unlike older x-ray machines that relied on x-ray film to capture images, digital x-rays make use of an electronic sensor that captures digital images to a computer. These new digital x-ray images can be viewed instantly and scaled (larger or smaller) to help our team detect and identify problem areas. Digital X-rays can also be quickly and easily transmitted to insurance companies or other dentists via e-mail.<\/li>\n
  3. Safe and Painless
    \n<\/strong>Dental x-rays are safe and painless. At our practice we take all necessary precautions to limit patient exposure to any levels of radiation. Additionally, digital x-ray technology operates at an 80-90% reduction in radiation output.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    At PDC we recommend a full mouth series of x-rays for all new patients. These initial x-rays should last for three to five years. Some additional x-rays (such as bite-wing x-rays) are recommended more frequently to identify any new dental problems.<\/p>\n
